Where did such an idea derive from? Why a working studio?
As a commuter for three years, I believe my lack of a great workspace instigated a desire for a place of beauty, for beauty. Most of my work resided in large bags, which I lugged around between two states. Small tables, flourescent lighting and irons spewing water as a result created a need for something clean and inspiring.
So what’s the relationship with the studio and apparel?
Exploring knitwear, one can be drawn to texture and shapes created through stitch. While researching imagery I felt a lot a that through visuals. Whether it be through images of paint, construction materials such as paper or tape, or clay. Clay in turn creates pottery which builds spectacular shapes. All these items are set in a natural warm light, which creates a color story that is just asking to be wrapped up in.
These garments include many of these key elements. Tape, that wraps around the body, which in turn can be adjusted to create volume. Soft rounded shapes, smoothed over as if molded into its form. Canvas like materials, painted knits, ribs that compress and shape. It is all found here.
